Tottenham's Young Stars Shine as Spurs Face Injury Setback Ahead of Brighton Clash

Tottenham returns to Premier League action following a hard-fought 2-1 win over Ferencvaros in the Europa League, while Brighton has had a week to reflect on their 4-2 defeat to Chelsea. Although Spurs fielded a second-string side, Ferencvaros gave them a tougher challenge than Manchester United did the previous weekend, but Postecoglou’s side held on for a second consecutive European win.

Pape Sarr and an in-form Brennan Johnson found the back of the net before Barnabas Varga pulled one back late, though the Hungarian champions couldn’t find an equalizer. Tottenham, featuring four teenagers in the lineup, got the job done in Budapest. Now, a more experienced squad will be looking to secure Spurs’ sixth straight win in all competitions and their third consecutive Premier League victory, following dominant performances against Brentford (3-1) and Manchester United (3-0). The latter was aided by Bruno Fernandes’ controversial red card, but even before that, Tottenham was in control and gave United a footballing lesson.

While Spurs are creeping up the Premier League table after a slow start to the season, their away form under Postecoglou has been inconsistent. A win at the Amex would mark the first time in a year that Tottenham has claimed back-to-back away victories in the league. Brighton, on the other hand, saw a promising start at Stamford Bridge fall apart after Georginio Rutter’s early goal, as Cole Palmer’s historic four-goal display left the Seagulls with a 4-2 defeat.

Despite the setback, Brighton remains just one point behind Tottenham in the standings, with both teams aiming to push toward European qualification. The Seagulls have been entertaining but inconsistent, scoring and conceding multiple goals in their last three games, yet winning only two of their last eight Premier League matches at home. Last season, Brighton won this exact fixture 4-2, though Spurs avenged the loss with a 2-1 win in February.

For Tottenham, captain Son Heung-min and left-back Destiny Udogie missed the midweek trip to Hungary with minor injuries. Udogie is expected to be fit for the Brighton game, but Son’s availability remains doubtful. Some Spurs fans may call for young Mikey Moore to start after his impressive midweek performance, but Postecoglou is more likely to stick with Timo Werner. Injuries continue to sideline attacking options Wilson Odobert and Richarlison, but Dominic Solanke is set to lead the line after receiving his first England call-up in seven years.

Tottenham's predicted lineup: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Kulusevski, Bentancur, Maddison; Johnson, Solanke, Werner.

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler provided mixed news on his squad’s fitness, with James Milner, Brajan Gruda, and Joel Veltman potentially available, though Joao Pedro and Matt O’Riley are still sidelined. Meanwhile, Carlos Baleba, who made history with his goal and assist against Chelsea, will partner Jack Hinshelwood in the midfield once again.

Predicted scoreline: Brighton 1:2 Tottenham
