Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bounce back quickly after their first loss in Europe this season when they face Ipswich Town at home in the Premier League on this afternoon.

Earlier in the week, Spurs suffered a 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray in the Europa League under manager Ange Postecoglou, while Ipswich had a late equalizer from Leicester City deny them their first win of the season in a 1-1 draw.

Despite Spurs’ recent European setback, they put on an impressive display in their last Premier League game, coming from behind to beat Aston Villa 4-1. Dominic Solanke led the scoring with two goals, supported by James Maddison and Brennan Johnson. This win helped strengthen their ambitions for European qualification next season, though Spurs currently sit in seventh place, two points behind Chelsea, Arsenal, and Aston Villa.

Heading into this fixture, Spurs can take confidence from their six-match winning streak at home, where they’ve consistently played aggressive, high-scoring soccer, often overcoming early setbacks to secure victories. They now have a chance to make history as the first Premier League team to win four straight home matches after conceding first. Their opponents, Ipswich, have had a hard time holding onto leads in the Premier League this season.

Last week, Ipswich came close to a breakthrough win against Leicester. Leif Davis scored a stunning volley, and Cameron Burgess made a crucial goal-line clearance, but they were denied a win by a late equalizer. Currently 18th in the league and winless after ten games, Ipswich sit just one victory away from moving out of the relegation zone, thanks to five draws.

Sunday’s game marks Ipswich’s third consecutive away match in London, following recent defeats against West Ham and Brentford, where they conceded four goals each. The team hasn't allowed four or more goals in three straight away games since 1964, so they’ll be aiming to break that trend. Historically, Ipswich has had success against Spurs, winning their last three Premier League encounters, though their most recent matchups were back in the early 2000s.

Spurs’ lineup may still miss key players due to injuries, including Timo Werner and Micky van de Ven, though defender Cristian Romero remains a possibility. Ipswich, meanwhile, will be without several injured players, including Chiedozie Ogbene and Axel Tuanzebe, and will also be missing Kalvin Phillips, who is suspended. Jack Clarke, a former Spurs player, could step up for Ipswich and face his former club.

Predicted Starting Lineup:

Tottenham Hotspur: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Dragusin, Udogie; Kulusevski, Bentancur, Sarr; Johnson, Solanke, Son

Predicted Scoreline: Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Ipswich Town
