Son Heung-min netted twice as Tottenham cruised to their first Premier League victory of the season, comfortably defeating a lackluster Everton.

Tottenham applied pressure on Everton right from the start, and their early dominance soon paid off. A well-executed move around the edge of the box saw Dejan Kulusevski cut inside and set up Yves Bissouma, who fired a sharp shot that bounced off the crossbar and into the net.

Not long after, Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was caught hesitating on the ball, allowing Son to steal it and easily slot it into the empty net.

Cristian Romero added a third goal after halftime, outmuscling James Tarkowski and Michael Keane to head in a precise corner from James Maddison.

Son capped off the win with a composed low finish between Pickford’s legs after Micky van de Ven made a surging run from defense.

Everton offered little in attack, with a rare shot from Jesper Lindstrom being well saved by Guglielmo Vicario.

While Son’s brace will grab the headlines, much of the focus also centered around Yves Bissouma. The Mali midfielder had recently faced internal discipline, including a one-match club suspension, after a video surfaced of him inhaling laughing gas, a substance banned for recreational use in the UK since 2023, with penalties as severe as two years in prison.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou had urged Bissouma to seek "redemption" after the incident, warning that continued missteps would close the door on further opportunities.

With Rodrigo Bentancur sidelined due to injury, it was somewhat surprising to see Bissouma included in the starting lineup so soon after the controversy.

However, Postecoglou’s decision paid off, as Bissouma delivered a disciplined performance in midfield, even scoring his first Premier League goal for Tottenham in his 52nd appearance. His celebration, pointing to his temples and then bowing, seemed to signal a renewed sense of focus and perhaps a plea for forgiveness.

Postecoglou’s approach, a balance of guidance and accountability, appears to have worked, steering Bissouma in the right direction. The Spurs boss commented, "It's a good start. He's still got work to do. I don’t doubt his footballing ability. Our goal is to make him the best version of himself, and that begins off the pitch as much as on it."
