He’s earned his spot’ – Postecoglou praises Mikey Moore’s impact in Spurs first-team

Ange Postecoglou has lavished praise on 16-year-old Mikey Moore after the youngster netted the winning goal against Vissel Kobe in Tottenham's latest pre-season friendly.

Moore, who has been training with the Tottenham first-team since last season ended, has been outstanding this summer, featuring in all three of Spurs’ pre-season matches.

The teenager scored against Hearts earlier this month and added to his pre-season tally with a close-range finish against Vissel Kobe in Japan, courtesy of a beautiful cross from Jamie Donley.

Tottenham still have three more pre-season friendlies lined up this summer against Bayern Munich (twice) and Team K-League, providing Moore with ample opportunities to further impress Postecoglou.

What’s Next for Mikey Moore?

As Moore is still only 16, he is not yet eligible to sign a professional contract or go out on loan, so he is expected to stay in North London for at least the first half of the season.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham are close to finalizing a new contract for Moore, aiming for him to sign as soon as he turns 17 on August 11.

Postecoglou has expressed his admiration for the young talent, stating in his post-match interview (via Football London): “Mikey has been fantastic since we brought him in. He’s earned his place in the team — he did at the end of last season.

He got a run with the first team because we saw in training that he was handling himself really well, and that has carried over into pre-season. He’s been good in all the games — he probably should have had three tonight, to be fair — but he did take his goal well by being in the right place.

“All we can do is continue to support his development. We have to remember that he had some injuries last year and he is only 16, but — yeah — super exciting.

“The future looks promising for many of our young players, but it’s our responsibility to ensure they reach their potential and keep working hard.”
