Arsenal secured a vital win over Tottenham Hotspur in a fiercely contested North London derby, with Gabriel's second-half header proving decisive in a 1-0 victory. Despite missing key players like captain Martin Ødegaard due to injury and Declan Rice due to suspension, the Gunners battled hard and withstood intense pressure from Ange Postecoglou's side to come away with all three points.

The early stages of the match saw Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya in excellent form, pulling off crucial saves, notably from Spurs winger Dejan Kulusevski. Meanwhile, Tottenham's keeper, Guglielmo Vicario, was equally impressive, denying a dangerous header from Kai Havertz to keep the match level.

Tempers flared late in the first half, with tensions spilling over after a challenge by Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber on Pedro Porro. The clash added fuel to an already intense atmosphere, setting up a dramatic and tense second half.

In the 64th minute, Gabriel made the defining contribution. Rising above Spurs defender Cristian Romero, he powered Bukayo Saka’s corner past Vicario to give Arsenal the lead. Tottenham’s defensive frailties, particularly when defending set-pieces, came back to haunt them. This weakness, a recurring issue under Postecoglou’s management, was highlighted again, as Spurs once more failed to handle a routine corner.

Tottenham’s struggles with set-pieces are well documented. Last season, excluding penalties, they conceded 16 goals from set-pieces out of 54 total goals allowed. Including penalties, that number rose to 23 from 61. Despite this glaring issue, Postecoglou has so far appeared unfazed, though another goal conceded from a poorly defended set-piece may force him to reconsider his approach.

While Spurs started the match with plenty of energy and creativity, they faded as the game went on. Their inability to capitalize on good opportunities, combined with poor decision-making, ultimately cost them. Arsenal, sensing the momentum shifting, pounced on Spurs' mistakes, much to the dismay of the home fans who had created a charged, electric atmosphere throughout the game.

For Tottenham, this defeat will be particularly hard to swallow. Arsenal’s absences had given them a golden opportunity to assert themselves, but they failed to capitalize, leaving them with only one win from their first four Premier League matches.

As for Arsenal, the victory sparked jubilation among their supporters, proving that even without key players, they are capable of grinding out tough wins in high-pressure situations. For Tottenham, however, the match was a painful reminder of old weaknesses they have yet to address.
